Cardinal Newman Wrote: "We have good hope that a system will be rising up, superior to the age, yet harmonizing
with, and carrying out its higher points, which will attract to itself those who are willing to make a venture and to face
difficulties, for the sake of something higher in prospect. On this, as on other subjects, the proverb will apply,
'Fortes
fortuna adjuvat.

Anyone who watches or
participates in a papal liturgy is
struck with the seeming
effortlessness with which it is
conducted, resulting in a
celebration that is prayerful,
dignified and uplifting. The person
responsible for orchestrating this is
the priest designated the "Master of
Pontifical Ceremonies." Reverend
Monsignor Guido Marini has
performed this role for some time
now, and his new book, translated
by Fr. Nicholas Gregoris, explains
how his liturgical judgments reflect
sound theology as well as Pope
Benedict XVI's goals for the
liturgical life of the entire church

Bringing Back Latin by Mark Clark PhD (From Homiletic and Pastoral Review)

During the debates of the Second Vatican Council one prelate after another addressed the Fathers of the
Council in fluent Latin. That they did so is hardly surprising, for Latin remained the living language of the Roman
Catholic Church. What may be surprising, however, is their collective level of fluency. The European prelates in
particular displayed in their speeches and lively discussions a near-native mastery of Latin that would have been
the envy of Renaissance humanists living five hundred years previously. Among the issues the Council Fathers
debated in Latin was the introduction of vernacular languages into the Mass. When they ultimately decided to
endorse the use of the vernacular in the Mass it doubtless never occurred to them that the facility in Latin that
they took for granted—Latin, after all, was an integral part of their own intellectual patrimony and would remain
the official language of the Church—would largely disappear within half a century.)
